The region of Extremadura in Spain has Merida as the capital city and Badajoz and Caceres as the main provinces. It is famed because of the roman ruins found here taking tourists and visitors back to the history of the region and the cities found within it.

The beautiful mountain ranges and natural landscapes also make the region ideal for vacations and holidays and it is no wonder that many tourists choose it as their destination in Spain. The region is also home to natural preserves, parks and also has rivers that are of great ecological value. The valleys are quite fertile and the climate is nothing short of nice and friendly. The winters here can however be very cold.

Although the region is yet to be hit by thousands of tourists making it among the most popular destinations in Spain, it still has lots of things to offer to those willing to explore it. The tradition and customs of the locals here are of particular interest and so are the metal works and ceramics with the Guadalupe ones gaining the most popularity and reputation. There are also great embroidery works and the gastronomy is simply outstanding.

While in Extremadura, there are places that are worth visiting and checking out otherwise the visit will not have been well exhausted. Merida is one such place and is full of monuments of the Roman times with the most outstanding being the two aquaeductus, the colossal theater and the Roman art museum. The preserves here are well maintained and you will manage to go back in time without much hustle.

Trujillo is another place worth checking and is the birthplace of Pizarro a great conqueror. It has a beautiful square and is also home to several castles of the medieval times. The ancient town walls are well preserved. Caceres on the other hand has town walls of the Moorish influences and watch towers from which you can have a beautiful view of the town. Renaissance palaces found here is also something to behold.

Other places worth visiting are Guadalupe which has a monastery featuring the Mudejar colossal style holding great pieces of art, Badajoz also with Moorish influenced buildings and watch towers and Plasencia a magnificent town that has a Gothic cathedral, palaces and well preserved town walls of the medieval times. Extremadura is a great place for adventure lovers as well as people interested in the history of the region.
