Connecticut is one of the thirteen original colonies. It is in the Southwest region. It is surrounded by the states New York in the west, Massachusetts in the north, and Rhode Island in the east. To the south, there is the Atlantic Ocean. Connecticut has a population of about three million people. Its area in square miles is 5,544 square miles. The robin is the state bird. The state flower is the beautiful Mountain Laurel. Hartford is the capital of Connecticut. Connecticut is home to many places of interest, famous people, and challenging sports.

Many visitors travel to Connecticut to see the tourist attraction. For instance, the capital building is big and shiny. Also, Hartford is an interesting city. Bridgeport is a very busy city because it is the most populated city in Connecticut. Connecticut has a lot of places.

Some notable citizens of Connecticut are Eli Whitney, George Smith, and Walter Camp. Eli Whitney is the inventor of the cotton gin. George Smith named the lollipop. Walter Camp invented the game American football. These are very important people to the United States.

Sports available to citizens and visitors in Connecticut are played on college, professional, and recreational levels. A college sport is baseball. A professional sport is football. A recreational sport is hockey. These sports are important to Connecticut.

Connecticut's past is wonderful. The Dutch were the first Europeans that settled in Connecticut. The first major settlements were created by the English in the 1630's. Thomas Hooker and other followers left the Massachusetts Bay Colony and found the Connecticut Colony. Three cities got established in Connecticut; they joined to form the city of Hartford.

Connecticut has many important foods. In Connecticut, people eat the most hamburgers in the United States! In conclusion, Connecticut is a very important state in the United States.
