"Children, be obedient to your parents in all things, for this is well-pleasing to the Lord." (Colossians 3:20).

I once ask my wife why children threw food on the floor and seem to do it with great glee. The wise answer of my wife was; ‘because they can'. When we took our little ones to a restaurant, I always felt I needed to leave an extra large tip because of the mess they would sometimes make. We often want our children to grow up quickly and be able to make decisions with good judgment and we especially think that they can when they are teenagers. That is because they look grown when in fact they are still children.

Parents are wiser than children. We need to find ways of sharing our wisdom and provide instruction and godly teaching. What children learn about life in school, in the neighborhood, and even in church is painfully small when compared with their need for understanding by the time they leave home.

"Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when your rise up. (Deuteronomy 6:4-7).

Proverbs 6 - Teaches us today?

Proverbs 6:20 "(20) My son, observe the commandment of your father, and do not forsake the teaching of your mother;"

Psalm 43:3-4 (Theme: Pinning For God's Presence). "(3) O send out Thy light and Thy truth, let them lead me; Let them bring me to Thy holy hill, And to Thy dwelling places. (4) Then I will go to the altar of God, To God my exceeding joy; And upon the lyre I shall praise Thee, O God, my God."

Today's question. Have you been chosen to keep the way of the Lord?

Yes, as Abraham was chosen. "For I have chosen him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice; in order that the Lord may bring upon Abraham what He has spoken about him." (Genesis 18:19).

Abraham not only taught his son Isaac and his wife Sarah, but many of his relatives, workers, and their families that represented his circle of influence.
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth. And, fathers, do not provoke your children to anger; but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." (Ephesians 6:1-4).

Parents, seek after God with all your heart. Seek His light and His truth and let your soul and spirit pant like a thirsty deer after God. Share your thirst for God with your children.

Dear God, help me to do my best; the rest, I leave to you. Amen.
