Clothing Drives Help Those in Need of Outerwear
Does your family have extra clothes, hoodies, jackets, and other outerwear that they don't wear anymore? It could just be that the clothes you recently purchased don't fit and they can't be returned. No matter the case, you're unused clothes could be a real blessing to others.
Many local religious organizations and charitable organizations hold clothing drives to supply outerwear to the less fortunate. Here are two clothing drives that your family can get involved with this fall to help provide warmth to those in need.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors
Neighbors Helping Neighbors is a New York and New Jersey based program that collects clothing and outerwear for those in need. Neighbors Helping Neighbors, or NHN, is a clothing drive that collects clothing directly from you with their mobile facilities.
NHN can also pick up donations from a specific location outside of your home. NHN provides fundraising opportunities to help those in need by partnering with the NHN clothing drives.
One Warm Kid
One Warm Kid is a national program that is hosted by Aeropostale, the popular teenage clothing store. One Warm Kid strives to help provide coats and various other outerwear to people in need. According to One Warm Kid's organizational website, one in five kids lives in poverty, and it is their goal to help provide them with warm clothing.
In 2010, "over 14,000 coats were collected through the 1 Warm Kid Coat Drive [and] over 80 schools participated," according to the organizational website. For more information, visit http://www.onewarmkid.com.
With the current state of the economy, people from all over the country are struggling to provide enough warm clothes for their children. You can make a difference that will touch a person's life all winter life. Plus, some stores also provide a percentage discount off of purchases for your donation.
If your family has extra clothing, coats or other outerwear pieces, consider donating them to Neighbors Helping Neighbors or One Warm Kid, or find another organization to donate to. By donating, you are not only helping those in need, but you are also helping your family realize the importance of charitable giving.
