Despite the young age of Maurice Lacroix watches as a truly well known company, their history began in 1961. However, it was not until 2001 that they truly became recognized. Despite this fact, Maurice Lacroix watches have come to be known by their stunning displays and the introduction of revolutionary models.

Being a true Swiss manufacturer, Maurice Lacroix was established in Saignelegier, a municipality of Canton of Jura which is located in Switzerland. Starting in 1961, Maurice Lacroix was originally a private distributor solely based in Switzerland.

Over the next fourteen years, however, the company sought to grow and first launched sales outside of Switzerland in the country of Austria. After this initial expansion, various other countries, mostly in Europe, began to follow Austria in the purchasing of Maurice Lacroix products.

After the acquisition of Austria as a new client of Maurice Lacroix watches, many other countries soon followed suit. In 1976 the watches were introduced in Spain, while in 1980 a distribution company was set up in Germany.

Throughout the years of 1976 to 1987, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Great Britain and Australia all became new targets for Maurice Lacroix. In 1989 Maurice Lacroix then gained the location in Saignelegier as a permanent casing company.

With Saignelegier as a permanent casing facility, the company would now be able to increase total revenue and use the influx of profits to further expand facilities. These series of renovations allowed for Saignelegier to become perhaps one of the most up to date facilities to date. With this modern facility Maurice Lacroix sought to gain more clientele among the international level.

Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, and Hong Kong soon found themselves with their own distribution network of Maurice Lacroix watches in 1989 and 1990. The Near and Middle East soon saw a growing market for the watches as well. With such a growing international popularity, Maurice Lacroix again improved and renovated their facilities in Saignelegier.

Saignelegier was once again expanded upon in the early to mid 1990's and continued to be one of the most modern watch manufacturing facilities in the world. In 1995 the United States was opened as a brand new market for the watches. With such an increasing demand worldwide, Maurice Lacroix would go through a series of renovations and an increase in production output of the next few years.

The Saignelegier facilities were renovated once again in 1999 in an attempt to keep up with the worldwide demand for their products. In 2001, Maurice Lacroix was able to officially claim to be a sole legal entity while it was previous seen as a division of another company. Soon enough Maurice Lacroix looked to expand the facilities at Saignelegier once again.

Great Britain was fortunate enough to be open up its own subsidiary in 2002. Maurice Lacroix then finalized all steps necessary in order to become an exclusive manufacturer brand in 2006. Two years later the company made history by releasing the Memoire 1, the first mechanical watch to come with a memory function, thus introducing an entirely new Grande Complication.

Maurice Lacroix watches have been among the top watch manufacturers in terms of style and class for years. With their headquarters based out of Saignelegier, Maurice Lacroix can be classified among the elite of the Swiss men's watch manufacturers. Their success in chronographs, moon phase indications, and retrograde displays shows that Maurice Lacroix will surely be making history for years to come.
