In the past, you would have gone to a standard advertising agency and asked them to develop an integrated marketing campaign for your brand or service.

The agency would then do research and study your offering in-depth and come up with a strategy that seeks to maximise the appeal and value of your product or service in the complex market out there.

For this purpose an agency would look at a wide mix of marketing tools that include television media, radio and newspapers as well as other related print media, outdoor, ambient and interactive. What they probably didn't consider was the internet and this was the reality even a few years ago.

Today however things have advanced by leaps and bounds and every product, service, brand, person or opinion you can think of is out there on the internet vying for attention. This is why marketing on the web now out rules all other mediums for most companies.

What's more its easy, cheap and the results of marketing on the web are limited only by what you do and try out on the internet. This has seriously changed the way convention advertisers, corporate clients and even the marketing fraternity themselves operate and do their work.

So much so that today, a sales campaign that does not include an element of marketing on the web will be highly ridiculed and cast aside as preposterous.

Now that we know how important the web is for marketing, it is also useful to look at how marketing on the web is done. This is a subject area that has exploded exponentially in the recent past. There is no right or wrong when it comes to marketing on the web.

Just common sense, gut feeling and a good understanding of the realities of the internet and how people behave and what people search for. Thus the tools and methodology used by one company or individual when marketing on the web will significantly differ from another.

Sometimes the differences will be quite stark even amongst companies within the same industry. This can be attributed to the importance placed on marketing on the web differing from company to company as well as the actual plan and strategy.

With Social networks taking off to dizzying heights in the recent past, marketing on the web has morphed into a beast that is quite hard to explain. This is because people themselves are the marketers and they do so without real knowledge of how their actions and recommendations ultimately result in a sale of a product or service or the further consolidation of an opinion.

Thus marketing on the web is a key ingredient in a marketing mix and one that cannot be left out. However how you use it today will be far removed from how you use this toll in the future and that is the beauty of it all. The web is an ever changing medium and every day, someone, somewhere finds a better, more innovative or more profitable way of marketing on the web.

I have been in Internet Marketing for the last 9 years, and I have seen some very good offers on the Internet and also some very bad ones.  The secret is finding one with a strong upline and mentoring program.  One of my personal favorites and proven systems can be found at http://www.makerealmoney.ws
