Whether you're planning a holiday or a business trip, the item you're most likely to forget to pack is travel insurance. While there are all types of travel insurance, for example covering the costs will flight work crews that you had to cancel, travel insurance. You really don't want to forget to pack is that of medical travel insurance. It may be worth your while to look at a package plan that includes trip cancellation, lost baggage and medical. Tcat frequently travels internationally, and here would like to offer you some tips you may not have thought of for your travel insurance planning.

Even if you're healthy, major medical travel insurance is something you don't want to be traveling without. You may be surprised to find out that your medical insurance does not cover you outside the country you are insured in. This can be disastrous. For example, Tcat spends several months a year in Mexico.  Let's pretend he is quietly going about life and get hit by a car. Well surprise, it's not illegal to drive in Mexico without insurance. Yes, the driver is financially responsible for his medical expenses. And if the driver has no insurance, he or she gets to sit in jail until they or their family comes up with the cash to cover Tcat's medical expenses. Certainly, this is not fun for the hapless driver. And without travel insurance, Tcat is up the proverbial dirty creek without a navigational device.

This is because no doctor or hospital is required to render medical assistance to Tcat without the assurance they are going to be paid! If the driver can't pay and is in jail, and Tcat does not have travel insurance for medical, he's hurting at least as much as the driver is.

A common mistake when buying travel insurance is to only buy for the length of the trip. Let's say you are out of the country for 2 weeks (14 days). On day 11, you are hit by the proverbial bus. If you are in the hospital for more than 3 days, you have no insurance!

This is why Tcat suggests you get a policy that has coverage for longer than you planned, and cancel the ‘extra' coverage when you get back home.
