When it comes to lighting, artificial light provided by electricity is the most common in urban areas and other places within electricity grid.  Most people don't know how to differentiate between fluorescent lamps and filament lamps also called bulbs.

Filament lamp/Bulb

They have a filament inside the bulb that glows as electricity passes through the thin filament therefore producing light. The higher the wattage the more the light (15watts-200watts) and the higher the current needed and also the shorter the life of the bulb. The lower the watts the less the electric current needed and the longer the life of the bulb.

They are most commonly used and are available in different shapes, wattage and color.

Some bulbs give out much heat therefore wasting electricity and heating up places and things.

Fluorescent Lamps

These are the long tube like fixtures. The tube is air tight and contains some small amount of mercury. They last a long time depending on the amount of light needed.

The fluorescent tubes are available in the following categories:

·         Warm white

·         Cool white

·         Deluxe warm white

·         Deluxe cool white

They do not consume a lot of electricity energy because they need a small amount of current and the mercury gas starts to glow producing ultra violet radiation which causes the glow.

They are also available in different wattage.

They don't give out much heat therefore they don't waste electricity.
