If you are looking for a personal trainer in January. It is important that you get the most of the experience. Here are some key questions to ask before hiring a trainer to help with your fitness or weight loss goals. The first thing I would do however is have a good think about what your goals are. This way, you can be clear when talking with your personal fitness trainer.

The first question I would ask your trainer is about experience. This is both from a life perspective and a personal training perspective. I believe it is always good to look at both because a lot of personal trainers are now coming in the industry after losing weight. This can some new trainers an advantage over more experienced trainers as they have lived the process. This highlights a very important point, just because a trainer has a lot of experience doesn't always make them better than the rest.

The second question is about qualifications and insurance. Personal training qualifications are good but don't necessarily make a better trainer. It all depends on relevance in my opinion. If you are looking to lose weight, some of the more advanced qualifications may not be that important to you. If you are thinking about hiring a trainer, I would check they have at least level 2 & 3 instructor (the trainer will understand this). In terms of insurance, check they have public liability insurance and professional indemnity.

The third question I would ask a personal trainer is about testimonials. Unless a fitness trainer is new to the industry, I would expect them to have testimonials on a web site. If they are working in a gym, then it may be a good idea to ask about how many sessions they are currently doing each week. This gives you a good indication of client retention and quality of service.

In conclusion, if you are looking to hire a personal trainer in 2011, it is important that you get the most of your investment. If you dislike the experience, you don't want to be put off from achieving your weight loss goals.
