When most people try and diet or lose weight, they tend to try and change everything at once. This is possible but takes a lot of self control and the environment has to support it. In this article I want to talk about the benefits of taking things a bit slower in order to help weight loss and obesity.

If we watch television programs that promote massive weight loss in a short space of time, we must remember that this isn't reality. If any obese or overweight person went on a TV program where the goal was losing weight then I am sure most people would do it. In the real world, we have distractions, family commitments and work to deal with.

My advice is always to try and take one thing at a time. Losing weight or getting out of the obese category is difficult so by trying to change too much at once, we run the risk of over loading ourselves and failing miserably.

I am a big believer that weight loss is to do with habits rather than food groups or meal plans. The issue with habits is that they take time to form and if we try and change too many habits at once, we are doomed to fail in the majority of cases.

When it comes to losing weight, it isn't always as simple as eat less or exercise more, if it was this simple we wouldn't have the massive obesity problem we have now. My advice (from someone who has lost weight) would be to try and fix one thing at a time.

A good example of this is eating breakfast. Most people don't do this and it is a great place to start. This can increase energy levels, keep people full and avoid sugar cravings. This is just one example but it shows that by doing one small thing can have a massive impact on dietary habits.

Changing habits doesn't make weight loss easy but it can make the change process a lot easier. Try one thing at a time and see how you get on!
