There is a strong correlation between your emotional state and your skin. So, if you want to get rid of acne, you should start by incorporating more relaxing activities into your schedule. Dr. Linda Papadoupolos, a leading skincare doctor and popular media commentator in the U.K. explains saying, "The skin and the psyche are interconnected.

You don't have to be a psychologist to understand the link stress has to your skin."
Papadoupolos, continued, "Stress not only affects acne flare-up; in general it worsens the overall skin condition," says Papadoupolos. "It induces the adrenal glands into overproduction of cortisol, a steroid, which in turn makes sebaceous glands produce more oil, making skin extra oily. This is the reason why in stressful periods, people experiencing an increase in acne get more inflamed, pus-filled papules than simple whiteheads or blackheads."

Even though it can be taken care of with the best acne treatment, you're better off avoiding the problem altogether. Try to keep your stress in check so that your adrenaline glands aren't overstimulated and the healing process remains running at its normal rate. When you feel yourself getting stressed, take a break from that activity. To prevent stress even further, be sure to exercise. Working out can help you get out some of your stress and feel better about yourself in the process.

Your sebaceous glands normally produce trace amounts of sebum - a thick mixture of oil and skin cells. This process cannot be avoided, but it can be kept in check. When you get stressed out, these glands tend to overproduce and your follicles get blocked. That's when bacteria can start to spread in a big way. Once this process starts, it is extremely difficult to stop. The best way to avoid this kind of break out is to take preventive methods ahead of time.

Other factors, such as genetics, race, hormones and the food you eat, can also impact whether nor not you breakout. Staying away from greasy foods is one preventative measure that everyone should know. But you can't change your genetics, and there is nothing that Caucasians can do about the fact that they are more likely to suffer from acne than people of Asian or African descent. Still avoiding stress and the intake of grease can curb the problem and lessen your need to get rid of acne.
