It is very common that overweight or obese skip breakfast. Reasons vary from time to not feeling hungry in the morning. The problem is that breakfast is probably the most important meal tactic to help with weight loss in my opinion. This point is up for debate but I truly believe that if more people ate a high protein, low sugar breakfast, we would not face the obesity crisis we now do.

The main reason is to do with blood sugar levels. When we wake up as we haven't been eating all night, our blood sugar levels are low and we need something to increase at a stable rate to get our day off to right start. By not eating anything, this need for something to boost our energy gets stronger and stronger until we resort to consuming something that instantly gives us that fix, sugar!

This leads to another blood sugar crash which then leads to more cravings, more sugar and more calories. This then leads to weight gain and obesity.

We also have the issue of genetics, we are genetically hard wired to crave sugar when we  are hungry. This is just the way it is. By not realising this and not eating breakfast because of "circumstance" we drastically reduce our chances of making the correct nutritional choices for the remainder of the day. As mentioned at the start, it is very rare that a healthy and fit person skips breakfast.

There is also great benefits in sitting down and having a nice meal to start the day off. We seem to be in such a rush these days that our digestive system doesn't know what has hit it. By cooking a healthy breakfast and taking the time to sit down and eat it, this can ease us  into the day and help minimise stress which leads to, yes you guessed it, more sugar cravings!

I recommend trying breakfast for one week, something like eggs and wholegrain toast, you may have to get up a little earlier but this could make a huge difference in your weight loss and health goals!
