A lot of the time, it's so easy to speed when no police officers are around and there aren't a lot of people on the road. Sometimes it's simply easier to not use your blinker or cut in front of someone who's going to slow. However, even in the most frustrating situations, it's important to follow the laws, as they are there for a reason. In many cases, these rules can help keep people safe on the road, including those working on the roads. Other rules - such as those that require these workers to wear safety vests or rain suits - are also in place to keep drivers and workers safe.

For example, speed limits aren't just arbitrary numbers put in place by random people. Instead, speed limits are created using a variety of factors, one of which being the aim to reduce the differences of speeds of those on the road. For example, the reason the speed limit is higher on highways is because most of the cars are traveling at the same speed. When driving through town, people experience stoplights, cars pulling out of shopping centers, people making slow right turns, and more, meaning the lowest speed and the highest speed are very far apart. Also, certain roads are actually designed for higher speed limits. Another factor is whether there is the possibility of side or head-on crashes.

If you drive defensively and keep a cool head, it can greatly diminish your chances of being in an accident or getting a ticket. All drivers have come across that one guy who drives like a maniac, cutting people off and going way over the speed limit. As avoiding these people is almost impossible, they can be blamed for many accidents, whether it's from trying to beat a red light or swerving into other lanes. While these people greatly increase the risk involved with driving, keeping your distance can help keep you safe.

One very important traffic rule concerns work zones. More than a hundred construction workers die every year working near the highway, with more than 20,000 sustaining injuries. Speeding through work zones often brings about a doubled speeding fine. Safety for these workers is vastly important, as not only is construction one of the most dangerous jobs out there, but working near a road comes with increased danger. In order to keep these workers as visible as possible, highly reflective safety clothing are a necessity.

When it comes to workers working near a highway, just being able to be seen is so important. With high-visibility safety vests on, this is accomplished. For construction workers, these vests usually come in neon green or neon orange which silver reflecting tape. These elements combine to create a garment that is hard to miss. However, even these reflective vests have a hard time staying visible in a storm. Thankfully, safety rain gear, which is basically a big bright-colored rain coat, can help keep workers safe and dry at the same time.

Everyone who uses public roads has the responsibility to keep those working on the roads safe. That being said, speeding past a work zone is just a bad idea, as you could bring harm upon someone's loved one. Keep alert when you come upon a work zone, especially when driving in bad weather. If you're on the other end of the line working at a site, remember that your safety gear or rain suits will be your best friend during periods of low visibility.
