The Well-known Most Effective Yoga Technique for Digestion of the meals

After having eaten your food/meal, do the following steps:

  • 1. Lay comfortably on your back on a comfortable plane surface/mat with both of your arms placed comfortably on both sides.
  • 2. Inhale and Exhale alternately slowly 8 times from both the nostrils. This helps the movement of food down the stomach.
  • 3. Then, turn to the right with your left arm on your left hip. Close your right nostril with your right thumb. Inhale and Exhale alternately slowly 16 times from your left nostril. This helps in the digestion of the liquid part of the food eaten.
  • 4. Then, turn to the left with your right arm on your right hip. Close your left nostril with your left thumb. Inhale and Exhale alternately slowly 32 times from your right nostril. This helps in the digestion of the solid part of the food eaten.
  • 5. Then, get up slowly, go out and pass out your urine. This helps remove excess heat from your body.
  • 6. Now, you can do your other daily activities.

There are two breathing positions as follows:

1. The air is inhaled with the chest going up from abdomen towards the neck and then the air is exhaled with the chest going down from the neck towards the abdomen.
2. The air is inhaled with the tummy bulging out/expanding out and then the air is exhaled with the tummy shrinking inwards towards one's back. We may call this position the tummy position.

During the food-digestion yoga-technique, you have to use the position number 2 [tummy position] described above.

  • 1. First you inhale, then you exhale - this act of inhaling and exhaling makes ONE TIME. So, it should now be easy for you to understand what we mean when we say - "slowly inhale and exhale 8 times, 16 times or 32 times."
  • 2. This yoga-technique for the food-digestion has been observed to be highly effective remedy in cases where the person has poor digestion, loose bowel system, passes out stool too frequently. Also, it helps remove toxicity from the body through the act of passing out the urine.
