According to an Australian Research Council new research report that spending a couple of hours outdoor in sunlight each day could help children and teenagers avoid becoming short-sighted. Exposure to bright light for two to three hours daily helps regulate the eye's growth, dramatically reducing the risk of illness ‘Myopia'.

Myopia also called near or short sightedness, is a refrative defect of the eye in which collimated light produces image focus in front of the retina when accommodation is relaxed. Those with myopia see nearby objects clearly but distant objects appear blurred. With myopia, the eyeball is too long, or the cornea is too steep, so images are focused in the vitreous inside the eye rather than on the retina at the back of the eye.

Growing numbers of children in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Korea, Thailand and China are struggling with their vision, with up to 90 percent of Singaporeans wearing glasses by the time they leave school.

According to the lead researcher Professor Ian Morgan that would compare with about twenty percent of Australians. We were quite intrigued by this for a country that's quite well educated we have a serious lack of myopia in Australia. A comparative study showed thirty percent of six and seven-year-old Singaporean children had already developed the condition, compared with just 1.3 percent of Australians of the same age. The figures were similar when contrasting children of Chinese descent from both nations, allowing researchers to eliminate ethnicity as a factor.

The one significant difference is that children in Fareast Asia spent average thirty minutes outside in natural sunlight where as Australian kids in average spend two hours in direct sun light. The above study clearly show how much important is for kids to remain outside in sun light. Mostly the children prefer to remain on computers and watching TV, which is not good for their own health. The physical activities in the sunlight can bring better health for them and also protect them from many virus illnesses.
