Goshen's tips for shaping Nigiri sushi will help you make preparing sushi rice easier and more quickly. Shaping sushi rice helps the sushi look more appetizing. Goshen's tips for shaping Nigiri sushi also have tips for some home brewed soy sauce. This is very desirable for Nigiri sushi or sashimi. Goshen's tips for shaping Nigiri sushi are more specifically for Nigiri style sushi. This will help you shape Nigiri sushi however some of the tips will help for preparing sushi in general.

The first tip for Goshen's tips for shaping Nigiri sushi is that using vinegar water helps to avoid stick hands from the sushi rice. Always have a bowl filled with vinegar water when you prepare sushi. Dip your hands in the water when you mold the rice or spread the rice on nori sheets.

The vinegar water will help keep the rice from sticking. It's also helpful to cover your knife with vinegar water when you are cutting sushi rolls so that the cuts will turn out nice and smooth.

The next part in Goshen's tips for shaping Nigiri sushi is making home brewed soy sauce. This home brewed soy sauce is a milder type of soy sauce that may be served with Nigiri sushi or sashimi to bring out the sushi taste even more.

 The home brewed soy sauce is prepared by diluting the dark Japanese soy sauce with water using ten parts soy sauce to one part water. Bring the combination to a quick boil. Let cool to room temperature.

Nigiri means to press or squeeze. The main goal in making Nigiri sushi is to turn the rice and topping into attractive shapes and requires a gentle hand. This would be considered a form of culinary art. There are four different ways of forming the rice with the cylinder form being the most common in the west.

The first step in Goshen's tips for shaping Nigiri sushi is to cut the fish filets in a slight diagonal manner against the grain. Cut 8 slices which are approximately 1 ¼ x 2 inches (3 x 5 cm).  Then spread a bit of wasabi paste in the middle of each fish slice. Form the sushi rice into 8 rectangular balls.

The second step is if your right handed to place the first fish slice with wasabi past facing up in your left hand. Place a rice ball on top of the slice. With your left thumb gently press down so that the rice and fish are glued together. Now take the sushi in your other hand and turn it so that the rice is facing down.

The next step in Goshen's tips for shaping Nigiri sushi is to press the topping gently into the rice. Place the sushi in your left hand again and press the long sides gently together with your right hand to form a sushi with a rectangular shape.

To further prefect your sushi shape, take your right pointer finger and gently mold the sushi into a half circle. Then you are finished with Goshen's tips for shaping Nigiri sushi.
