Goshen’s Shrimp Toasty’s

Goshen’s shrimp toasty’s are a nice appetizer or light lunch that will have your taste buds satisfied. This seafood favorite is a nice way to impress that special someone or friends and family. Goshen’s shrimp toasty’s a best prepared with raw shrimp so that it will stick to the bread during the frying process.

This recipe calls for large slices of white bread, however wheat bread can be used and results may vary depending on the brand of bread used. Goshen’s shrimp toasty’s are best presented by placing them on a bed of fresh crisp lettuce.

Serves 4

Ingredients for shrimp toasty’s:

· 8 ounces (about 227 grams) of uncooked shrimp without the shell.

· 6 pieces of large white bread (or what bread if desired)

· 1 egg white lightly beaten

· 1 tablespoon(about 14.3 grams)  of vegetable shortening

· 1 teaspoon(about 4.7)  of finely chopped scallions

· 1 tablespoon(about 15 milliliters) of dry sherry

· ½ teaspoon(about 2.38 grams)  of finely chopped fresh ginger

· 1 tablespoon(about 14.3 grams) cornstarch paste

· 1 cup(about 226.8 grams) white sesame seeds

· Pinch of salt

· Pinch of pepper

Ingredients for frying

· Vegetable oil

Directions:

Step 1: Chop the shrimp with the shortening to form a smooth paste. Remember that Goshen’s Shrimp Toasty’s are best when using fresh shrimp. Then put the chopped shrimp and shortening into a bowl.  In the bowl you put the chopped shrimp and shortening mix with all the other ingredients very well except the sesame seeds and bread.

Step 2: The next step in Goshen’s shrimp toasty’s is to spread the sesame seeds evenly on a baking sheet or large plate. Then get the shrimp mix and spread it on the slices of bread thickly on one side. Then get each slice of bread and press down the side with the shrimp mix into the sesame seeds. (tip: You can start heating up the oil in your deep fryer or saucepan to be ready for the next step)

Step 3: Heat the oil up in a frying pan or deep fryer to a medium heat. Then fry the sesame seeded bread in the deep fryer or frying pan 2-3 pieces at a time sesame seed side down while frying. Cook the sesame seed bread for 2 to 3 minutes. Then remove the bread and drain. You can place them on a plate with a paper towel underneath to help get out extra oil.  Then cut off the crusts and slice each pieces of bread into 6 or more fingers (pieces) Then enjoy the wonderful taste of Goshen’s shrimp toasty’s.
