Mumbai has for long been a city that promises the three basics work, food, and shelter. More than that, the city is the home of Bollywood, the industry that creates dreams and attracts dreamers from all around the world.

A large number of people come to Mumbai because it is said that the city never turns away anyone: if you have the skill, this city will pay for it; there are jobs in Mumbai for everyone. India has been able to withstand the dark winds of economic downturn which uprooted a number of people from their jobs in the western world.

A recent survey by Ma Foi Randstad Employment Trends Survey (METS) has predicted that the country will see the generation of 1.6 million new jobs in 2011. There is a good reason to believe this prediction by METS, which encompassed 650 companies from 13 different industry sectors. Also, METS survey in 2010 suggested that over 1 million jobs will be created in India, and records show that 1.3 million jobs were created last year.

The survey shows an upward trend in the job market with three major metros Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi set to create 255,797 jobs this year, with 102,884 jobs in Mumbai. The reason for creation of large number of jobs in India is the changing role of India and China in the world economy. A number of foreign companies are scampering to invest in India and become a part of its progress.

Domestic growth and domestic sales have also placed a number of companies in a position of strength; the demand for consumer goods like leather, food, and textiles is increasing and companies producing such goods alone will be generating over 2 lakh jobs this year. A large number of these jobs will be in the metros and big cities.

The survey takes into account the hiring plans of the big and midsize firms and kept industry trends in mind. It also considers the optimism in the market to calculate the number of jobs that will be created by Indian business in India. But it suggests that although a large number of jobs will be created; there will not a great hike in pay.

IT, finance, health-care, and education are some of the major sectors that will create a number of jobs in Mumbai. In spite of terrorist attacks, divisive politics, high rents and property prices, and incredible congestion, Mumbai is still the best bet for the country’s talented and needy people to find jobs that pay well.

Since a long time more and more jobs have been created in Mumbai, and now its suburbs too are seeing a lot of new companies and jobs being created. As the economic situation get better around the world and as India finds its feet as a giant economic power, its economic capital will only develop more, and create more jobs.
