How To Remove, Inspect, Change and Reseat a Problem Printer Cartridge

HP Printer might not function if there is a cartridge problem.The power light might blink until the problem cartridge is resolved. this might occur after installing new cartridge or anytime.
One of the following messages may also display on the computer:

  • 'Incorrect print cartridge'
  • 'Print Cartridge is in the wrong slot'
  • 'Print cartridge problem'

Work through the following steps in order. When the power light stops blinking, the problem is resolved.After reinstalling printer software and  the problem still occurs, the electrical contact between the cartridges and the printer might be bad. Removing and reseating the cartridges might help.

  1. Open the cartridge access door and wait a moment for the cartridges to come to the center.

    • The black or photo cartridge goes on the right.
