Personal Trainer Marketing: Stop Talking About Yourself!

Having a good website is the key to a successful personal training business. When it comes to marketing to clients looking for a personal fitness trainer, the majority of people search online. This shouldn't be new information to most people but where I see a lot of personal trainers fall down is the set up of the website.

The first and biggest mistake that personal trainers make online is making their marketing strategy about them rather than their prospective audience. If you visit a website that only has features and no benefits then you can't make an emotional connection to why you should use a service. Another quite common problem is the personal trainer will put pictures of themselves on there looking buff. Long gone are the days where someone will train with you because you are super fit, most people would find that scary.

The vast majority of weight loss clients just want to know that a personal trainer can empathize and get results. An effective marketing strategy should really include this in it's message. This isn't designed to deceive people, it is demonstrating that you actually can help people. People will respond more to that than a photo of a personal trainer with his top off!

I would advise going back and reviewing your website on a monthly basis and seeing if your message is targeted to your audience. Do you have a long list of qualifications on your site? Whilst this is important from a credibility point of view, it doesn't mean much to the client who wants to lose 20 pounds.

People are becoming more demanding need to know that you can provide the best service possible. You will never get in front of people if your "shop window" doesn't look the part. People also love to browse and read online so if your personal training website isn't very interesting, people will click away before you know it.
