Personal traits vary man to man and we cannot make a perfect example of an ideal to be followed but even then there are some basic lines to be followed in this regard.

First of all try to understand the psyche of subordinates and colleagues. The basic tool is to approach other people at their mindset in order to communicate effectively. It will not only extend level of comfort while day to day working but also increase the efficiency. But all this must be within the boundaries and respectful way. Those bosses who are considerate to others are always respected and have team of loyal members.

Secondly, always take initiative while assigning some duties you deem somewhat awkward and start by your self so that others would not be shy or reluctant to do and take it whole heartedly. Leadership quality claims that a good demonstrator can lead effectively.

Finally, listen carefully to other and speak gently. Don't become harsh while reacting on some unfavorable comments from other side. Since communication is the two way traffic, not listening may depict a negative image and expose as "proud" or "overconfident" and communication gap may occur. Communication gap always create troubles and misunderstandings.

Do not go for personal liking and disliking and be unbiased. It will portray you a fair personality. Favoritism always overrides the merit. No doubt, one has right to choose some of the subordinate termed as favorite but it will make you "no more favorite".
