People read book reviews to get a glimpse of what they should expect or what they will feel should they decide to read a certain book. Online book reviews can be read by potential book readers from various countries around the world. So for each review to truly reflect the essence of the book and deliver its message across all kinds of people, a good review should contain basic but key elements.

For a good and accurate review, make your tone as casual as you possibly can. This can give the readers something they can relate to and easily understand while at the same time leaving them wanting more to read the book. Describe about one thing that impressed you most about the book. It can be about the plot, the way the story unfolded, about the characters - it can be anything, just as long as it is one specific thing that when people read the book, it is something noticeable and something that is unique compared to other books. While there may be many aspects, one aspect that is truly special should be highlighted.

If you say the book is a good read, ask yourself if it really is that good that you find the author's other works to be intriguing and interesting. This is a good indication that the book actually served as an avenue to introduce you to the other works of the author. If the book is not good enough, then that one is indeed enough.

Mention the feelings that the book opened you up to. Be it feelings of anguish, sorrow, triumph or happiness, a good book is something that may take you on a rollercoaster of feelings from one chapter to the next, but in the end, one feeling should be overwhelming and dominant. Books can make us feel happiness, sorrow, anger, passion, and many other emotions.

If you didn't like the book, don't just say that the book was horrible. Again, try to figure out what exactly you didn't like about it. Explain what was missing, what content should have been there to make it better, and also what other books did a better job of covering the topic or creating the storyline and mood.

Lastly, a good review will tell readers about something that they will take-away with them after finishing the book. Online book reviews can be helpful to readers and is essential in an author's work. The feedback written in reviews can be an indication of how the world would look at his work, and where it is placed in a writer's universe. It will be a great comfort for the author to know where his works stand and how they are perceived by other readers.
