The functional HP LaserJet 1320 printer is among one of the higher rated printers in the 1300 series, and it certainly delivers on its promises. It is a monochrome laser jet printer using HP LaserJet 1320 toner that delivers excellent performance across all standard criteria and it is extremely versatile, as well. It can run on most Windows and Mac operating systems and it also comes at a decent price, especially when one considers the capabilities it delivers.

Print speeds for the 1320 are rated at 22 pages in a minute, although the average speed comes in at about 17.5 pages every 60 seconds. From the time the job is sent from the PC or Mac until the time the first sheet emerges is usually around 8 seconds, which is excellent for a machine intended for a small office or small workgroup-type environment.

This LaserJet is also a fairly compact machine and looks to have been designed to fit easily on a desktop area, although it can be set off in its own area to act as a network printer if that's what will be required. Networking capability is an option, though, and doesn't come standard with the regular 1320, which is made in standard configuration to connect to a single PC or Mac.

The 1300 series of printers is very versatile, and this model offers a wireless connection option, even though the standard 1320 connects to a computer via traditional wired technologies. These include both USB and parallel port connection choices. The wireless option offered is a very nice 802.11g, although it will add to the bottom line price of the Hewlett-Packard printer.

For those looking for a high-quality print product, this HP printer will certainly meet their expectations. It delivers 1,200 x 1,200 dots per inch print resolution, meaning the sharpness and clarity of the produced product will be excellent across the board. It loses none of its quality either, as font size shrinks, though at the very smallest (two or three-point) there might be a little blurriness, but there will be no running together.

For a machine intended for mainly PC-to-printer duties, it's a bit surprising that the LaserJet 1320 offers a duplex (two-sided) printing capability, but it does. And it seems to be relatively quiet while printing on both sides, which isn't always the case for many printers in the 1320's market segment. There are a great many different font types included within the printers software capabilities, as well.

Supplied memory with the HP 1320 is an acceptable 16 MB of RAM. For purely PC-to-desktop-printer duties this is likely more than enough for just about any print job. Memory can be upgraded to honor 44 MB of RAM, if needed, which might be if the printer were to be set up with its optional networkable functions and features. The printer can run off of most Mac and Windows operating systems, which means it's fairly versatile.

The HP LaserJet 1320 printer can hold up to 500 sheets of paper, and prints out on most media stock. It can be found for as little as $150, though new units often run around $400. With various options, it can act as a standalone network printer and it is a fairly durable machine, having a 10,000 page monthly duty cycle backing it up. There is a great deal to like about the 1320, it has to be said.
