First off you must check to ensure the personal trainer is certified, this will mean that the person has had some sort of education or training. Hiring a person who does not have a certification can lead to problems that may result in injury to you.

Next anyone that you hire should also be up to date on the current CPR and first aid techniques. This is something that can be very important and possibly in the right situation save your life.

A first meet with a personal trainer is not about exercise but getting to know the fitness level, health history, and goals. During the first meeting you will have your body measured, a full health history taken, and the personal trainer will establish your fitness level. After getting the idea of what goals you want to reach they will then set up a training program.

This training program will include not only a cardio workout but weight training, and a nutrition program. That's right they will even help you to eat right, which is one of the most important factors when it comes to losing weight from a training program.

There are also signs that you will need to look for to avoid hiring the services of the wrong personal trainer. One of which is that of a personal trainer who is not quick to answer questions you ask, or may actually seem that they are ignoring the question. Another sign that you need to look for is a personal trainer who seems to always answer their cell phone in the middle of your time with them. Unless they are awaiting a personal call about family, that cell phone should not be interrupting the time you are paying for with that trainer.

Finally a personal trainer who is not nice, or tries to motivate you with words or phrases that are disparaging. There are numerous ways that you can be motivated and all of them should be good ways. Comments like "your too fat" should not be thrown out, but something like "imagine that size dress you've been looking at". Something that will encourage you and still make you feel good about yourself and the program.
